Starting Fresh in the Spring By Chad, Husband, Father, Software Engineer • June 25, 2018
Now that was a cold winter! These spring days full of warmer sunshine, new vegetation, and venturing outside without freezing sure are welcome! Shifting seasons can also bring other changes, like new television shows to watch, updated school schedules, and, I’ll even say it out loud (begrudgingly), spring cleaning.
Admittedly, stowing the snow shovels for another couple of seasons does make this formidable spring-cleaning task a bit more bearable. If treated correctly, the spring season can be time for both renewal and renewed focus. Take nature, for example. Previously lifeless, brown and dormant flora takes its cue and pops to life—seemingly at a moment’s notice. The first small blooms of spring come to mind. A wave of excitement radiates through our home when that first flower peeks its way through the barren ground. There isn’t a personal trainer or fitness guru telling it to rise up, get moving and leap back to life. It’s pretty amazing to me how this process unfolds. Of course some vegetation takes a bit more time or effort on our part, but that’s the beauty of nature, everything sprouts in its own time or season.
We can learn quite a bit about renewing ourselves from nature’s example. Some try a new exercise routine or diet. Others visit a much needed care provider for health or dental needs, or if you have relapsing MS, like me, perhaps a visit to the neurologist. Paths for personal renewal are seemingly endless, so take time this spring and focus on doing one thing to make your life better. Like the first spring bloom, that one thing may come quick and easy. Or like the late blooming plant, you may take extra time or need some assistance, but you’ll find your opportunities for renewal too.
Regardless of what you choose to do or how long it takes to accomplish, follow nature’s example, use this season to improve your life. I just got the okay from my doctor, so I personally plan to get outside and jog again to clear the winter “cobwebs.” But only after working with my family to tidy up our home for this spring season, of course. :)
As I stated earlier, paths for personal renewal are seemingly endless, so please let me know what you’re going to do as the weather gets warmer!
