LEMTRADA is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). Because of its risks, LEMTRADA is generally used in people who have tried 2 or more MS medicines that have not worked well enough. It is not known if LEMTRADA is safe and effective for use in children under 17 years of age.

Passing the Time: My Infusion Experience LEMTRADA patient blogger: Donnie By Donnie, Father, Husband, Project Leader, Former Athlete • January 23, 2017

Bring headphones to listen to your favorite songs to help pass the time during infusions.

Spending 8 hours in the infusion center makes for a long day! Infusions take about 4 hours—and you also have to account for prep time and observation time after your infusions. And my wife has been with me during all of my LEMTRADA infusions, so they were long days for her, too.

To pass the time, my wife and I brought a few things to keep us occupied:

  • Books
My wife is a big-time reader. She probably reads more books during my infusion week than I read in a year.

  • Favorite magazine
I’m a huge sports fan, so I brought a sports magazine, but there are so many other options to choose from!

  • My tablet
This is the go-to item. You can pass a lot of time on a tablet, whether it’s playing games or surfing the web.

  • Word search puzzles
Any puzzle can be a great distraction during infusions, whether it’s a word search, a crossword puzzle, or a brainteaser.

  • Headphones
Music is my life. It makes me happy, it inspires me, and it keeps me sane. Music can help everyone get through a rough day.

Of all the items listed above, my favorite are the headphones. I’m a huge music fan, and I love to sing. I think it is one of my best talents! My wife thinks that, too, but she won’t admit it. My two favorite genres are country and classic rock. There is nothing like rocking out to some country hits to help pass the time and keep my spirits up. On a few occasions during my infusions, my wife had to tell me to tone it down a notch or two. Even though she likes my singing, she thought the other people in the center might not enjoy it as much.

I would encourage anyone who is starting the infusion process to be prepared for the long days. Find something to occupy your time. Do something that keeps you positive. For me, it’s a little singing along with my favorite country music.
