Tips & tricks for getting through the holidays while living with relapsing MS

The holidays are upon us—and that means one thing: There’s so much to do and so little time! Cooking, visiting, shopping, wrapping…the list goes on! Getting through the season can be all it’s meant to be if you have some helpful advice—even if you are living with relapsing MS.

We’ve put together a list of tips and tricks that you might find helpful throughout this busy time of year. Take a look and be sure to share the things that help get you through the holidays in the comment section below.

When it comes to cooking…

  • Try to prepare meals ahead of time, like Rachel, so you’re not in a crunch to do everything at once.
  • Buy veggies that are pre-chopped to save your energy for other tasks at hand.
  • Find some recipes that are on the simple side. Just because they’re easy doesn’t mean they’re not tasty!

When it comes to visiting…

  • Do a little research on the best times to travel to avoid spending a ton of time in traffic.
  • If you have a lot of activities planned, try to set aside some time to rest.
  • Don’t be afraid to reschedule—if you think you’re pushing yourself too hard, it’s okay to make new plans for a time when you’re feeling up to it.

When it comes to shopping…

  • Don’t feel pressure to go out and about—try doing some online shopping instead (especially on Cyber Monday, to get some good deals!)
  • If you’re going out, make a list, so you know what you need to get and don’t spend too much time looking.

When it comes to wrapping…

  • Be mindful of your time and energy. Wrap gifts during the time you know you’ll be the most productive.
  • To make things easier, put presents in bags or boxes with festive designs instead of wrapping everything individually. You can also see if there are online options to have your gifts wrapped for you.
  • Try to get your hands on some stick-on ribbon bows instead of making your own.

And always remember: The most important part of the holiday season is spending time with family and friends. That’s why we’re hoping these tips can eliminate the extra worry and hassle that we sometimes face around the holidays and save you some more room for quality time. Don’t forget to share your own tips and tricks below!
